Adding Gravitas to a Movement

Steven Windmueller, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor of Jewish Communal Studies

In May, the third Recharge Reform Judaism Conference took place, at which time four resolutions were adopted. These documents call upon the Reform Movement to refocus much of its attention to ritual engagement, spiritual renewal, Jewish educational realignment, and the deepening of a Zionist reconnection. This essay seeks to unpack this effort, placing it into the history and context of how Reform Judaism evolved within the American context.
